Hurray! Women Can Also Get A Pill Like Viagra!

Since the very day of the introduction of Viagra (a drug that boosts libido and treats Erectile Dysfunction in men), the need of a pill like the same for women has been in demand. Now this dream is going to come into being with a pill like Viagra for women. Excited?

University of Virginia (UVa) has tested a drug that may boost libido of women who have already lost interest in sex. Researchers are testing a Testosterone gel that may help women boost their libido. UVa joins 99 other medical institutions participating in testing the drug’s efficacy and safety.

It means the making of a drug like Viagra for women is in the pipeline. This drug is a testosterone-laden ointment called LibiGel. It will be prescribed at the University in coming months to women who are suffering from hypoactive sexual desire disorder. According to Dr. Anita Clayton, author of the book ‘Satisfaction: Women, sex and the quest for intimacy’, it is the most common sexual problem that women have.

25 women between the age of 30 and 65 will be enrolled to take part in the national study. Those women must have had both ovaries surgically removed, be currently taking an estrogen supplement and be distressed about their lack of libido. Ovariectomies (surgical removal of one of both ovaries), or surgical menopause, can lead to a drop in sexual interest because Ovaries produce roughly half of the testosterone in a woman’s body. And Testosterone plays a key role in sexual functioning for men and women.

LibiGel comes in a pump bottle. Women have to rub the small dot of gel into the skin of their upper arm. Over the next 24 hours, the gel’s Testosterone seeps into her bloodstream, boosting her energy and libido. In its second-phase clinical trials at 17 institutions, LibiGel led to a 283 percent increase of satisfying sexual encounters for the women taking the drug.

Clayton, who is running the clinical trial at UVa, said that the drug is better than previous Testosterone treatments because it keeps levels of the chemical constant, much like naturally occurring Testosterone. She expects it to work.

Obviously women also have the right to get the best out of sex. Without libido, sex is not at all an act to be enjoyed. Women, now you are on par with men as you can also increase your sexual urge with a pill. And it is definitely a great idea to have a pill than to act passively. What you say?
